August 31 -Waking the Giant - Blooms, Boccie, and BBQ at Tannehill Historic Ironworks
Over 150 years ago Daniel Hillman made Alabama's best wrought iron in the fiery depths of his Bloomery Furnace here on the banks of Roupes Creek.
Join us August 31 as we wake the giant and make some more iron fit for the anvil. We will be building a Traditional Norse style shaft Furnace, Prepare locally dug Iron Ore, Make Charcoal for the Furnace and use the early skills passed down generation to generation to create bloom iron and forge a simple knife out of it.
There will be plenty to see and do as we will celebrate the birth of our Country with Food, Music, and a Boccie tournament. Of course there will be plenty of hot metal!
